Anatomy of the eye Flashcards
What is the Cornea
The ant. 1/6 of Fibrous Coat that is transparet to allow light into eye
What is the Vascular Layer of the eye
Ciliary Bodies
Iris
Choroid
What is the Sensory Layer of the eye
Rentina
What is the Fiborous coat of the eye
Cornea and Sclera
What is the role of the vascular layer of the eye
Ciliary Bodies - Suspend the lens and produce Aqueous Humor
Iris - Controls diameter of pupil => the amount of light entering
Choroid - Supplies blood to the outer layers of retina
What is the role of the Sensory layer of the eye
Retina - has light sensitive rods and cones enabling vision
What is the role of the fibrous coat of the eye
Cornea - Transparent => allows light to enter the eye
Sclera - Opagaue => Gives attatchment to extraocullar muscles.
What is the Ant. segment of the eye
In front of lens
What is the Post. segment of the eye
Behind the lens
What is the Ant. chamber of the eye
Infront of Iris
What is Aqueous humor
A watery fluid Ant to the lens (Ant. segment)
Helps maintain Intraocular pressure
Also nourishes the lens and cornea
Produced in Ciliary body => exits via Schlemm’s canal
What is Aqueous humor
A watery fluid Ant to the lens (Ant. segment)
Helps maintain Intraocular pressure
What is Vitreous humor
A Transparent gel posterior to lens (Post. segement)
Helps cushion retina
Route of Aqueous humor
Ciliary body => flows through pupil (inbetween Iris and cornea) => Reaches angle of the Ant. chamber where it is filtered our via TRABECULAR MESHWORK
what is the lacrimal gland
A gland that produces tears
Lateral and superior to eye (sits in orbit)
what is the lacrimal gland
A gland that produces tears
Lateral and superior to eye (sits in orbit)
Route of tears
Lacrimal gland => Puncta(pink, medial, part of eye)=>Lacrimal sac=>Inferior meatus
what innervates the lacrimal gland
Facial Nerve CN VII (parasympathetic)
how is the lens secured
Ciliary muscle => Ciliary body => Suspensory ligament => lens
