Anatomy of Leg Circulation Flashcards
What are end arteries?
The only blood supply to a given area of the body - no collaterals.
Example of end arteries?
Digital arteries.
Do not use what type of anaesthetic near end arteries?
Adrenaline containing local anaesthetic.
The popliteal artery bifurcates to give…
2 Branches - anterior tibial artery, posterior tibial artery (posteriorly).
Where does the popliteal artery bifurcate?
In the popliteal fossa.
Where does the deep brachial artery bifurcate?
In the cubital fossa.
The deep brachial artery bifurcates into…
The radial artery and ulnar artery.
The dorsals pedis artery is a continuation of the
Anterior tibial.
The medial and lateral plantar arteries bifurcate from the
Posterior tibial.
Location of radial artery
lateral to tendon of flexor carpi radialis
Features of Superficial veins
smaller, thinner, run in superficial fascia, highly variable, drain into deep veins.
Features of deep veins
larger, thinkers, run deep to deep fascia and in body cavities, often predictable, accompany arteries.
Features of superficial fascia
Loose connective tissue and fat, varies in depth, superficial blood vessels, cutaneous nerves. lymphatics ad sweat glands.
Features of deep fascia
Relatively tough and sheet like, dense connective tissue, usually white, covers most of the body deep to skin and superficial fascia. Divides limbs into compartments.
Deep fascia of thigh
Fascia lata.
