What is the cuticle?

A

It is the thin waxy layer on the upper part of the layer. It protects the leaves whilst allowing light to pass. It also reduces water loss from the leaves.

What is the function of the epidermis?

A

It is a thin, transparent layer of cells. It allows for light to pass to the palisade cells.

What is the palisade layer?

A

It is placed towards the top of the leaf a packed with many chloroplasts. The arrangement also increases the surface area. This allows for more light energy to be absorbed.
