What is meant by superficial and deep?
- Superficial= means nearer to the surface e.g. the muscles of the arm are superficial to it’s bone(Humerus)
- Deep= means farther away from the surface e.g. the Humerus is deep to the arm muscles
What is meant by medial and Lateral?
- Medial= means nearer to the medial plane e.g. The little finger is on the medial side of the hand.
- Lateral= means Further away from the medial plane
e. g. the thumb is on the lateral side of the hand
What is meant by posterior(dorsal) and Anterior(Ventral)
- Posterior means nearer to the back =E.g. The heel is posterior to the toes,
- Anterior means nearer to the front= E.g. The toes are anterior to the ankle
What is meant by Superior (Cranial) and Inferior (Caudal)
- Superior(cranial) means nearer to the head= the heart is superior to the stomach.
- Inferior (Caudal) means nearer to feet. e.g. the stomach is inferior to the heart
What is meant by proximal and distal?
- Proximal means nearer to trunk or point of origin. e.g. The elbow is proximal to the wrist,
- Distal means Farther away from the trunk or point of origin. e.g. the Wrist is distal to the elbow
What is meant by dorsum and sole?
- Dorsum= means the dorsal surface of the foot,
- Sole= means the plantar surface of the foot
What is meant by dorsum and palm?
- Dorsum= means the dorsal surface of hand,
- Palm= means the palmar surface of the hand.
What is meant by abduction and adduction?
- Abduction= movement away from the body,
- Adduction= movement towards the midline of body
What is meant by circumduction?
-Circumduction= Tracing a circle in the air with a hand or foot
What is meant by supination and pronation?
- Supination means turning palm upwards,
- Pronation means turning palm downwards
What is meant by inversion and eversion?
- Inversion means turning foot inwards,
- Eversion means turning foot outwards.
What is meant by extension and flexion?
- Flexion= joint movement opposite to extension.
- Extension= joint movement opposite to flexion
