Anatomy - Imagining 08/11/17 Flashcards
What does x-ray do?
Present tissues of varying density on x-ray film
Body density is what on an x-ray?
Mass
Image density is what on an x-ray?
Lightness or darkness on film
Define radiopaque
Dense structure presented as WHITE
Define radiolucent
Less dense structures presented as black
How do you increase image clarity and decrease error in x-ray?
Position structure of interest closer to film
Define PA
Posterioanterior. X-ray beams pass patient from posterior to anterior; vice versa with AP
What is PA common with?
Chest x-ray (CXR)
How is the body presented with CT?
Transverse sections
What is CT?
Series of x-rays that the computer reconstructs slices as stackable slices of 3D body
What is done in MRI?
Body is pulsed with radio waves in strong magnetic field with signals recorded
How is MRI similar to CT?
Takes 2D slices and reconstructs to 3D
How is tissue appearance modified?
Control of radiofrequency
Can moving structures and flow be imaged in MRI?
Yes
How are internal structures visible for US?
Ultrasonic waves
