Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
Auditory System
Responsible for hearing, balance, equilibrium, and communication skills
Cardiovascular System
Aorta, Endocardium, Myocardium, Superior and inferior vena cava, right and left ventricle, right and left atrium
Digestive system
Responsible for the digestion, absorption, metabolism, and excretion of food.
Includes the mouth, salivary glands, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and rectal area
Endocrine system
Responsible for the production and secretion of hormones from the glands.
They stimulate specific target cells, resulting in a response.
Includes the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, pineal gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, thymus, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovaries, and testes.
Immune System
A defense system that identifies and destroys foreign substances that invade the body.
Includes the thymus, lymph node, T cells, B cells, and Spleen
Integumentary System
Protects the body against heat, cold, light, dehydration, and infection
Includes sweat glands, sebaceous glands, dermis, epidermis
Nervous system
Controls both voluntary and involuntary functions of the body. Consists of two components, the central(CNS)and the peripheral nervous system(PNS).
CNS consists of Cerebral Cortex, Brainstem, Diencephalon, and Blood-brain Barrier.
PNS consists of the automatic nervous system and the somatic nervous system.
Ophthalmic System
Responsible for providing vision
Reproductive System
Production of offspring for the survival of the species
Respiratory System
Responsible for respiration and maintaining homeostasis
Consists of two systems, upper and lower?
Urinary System
Responsible for the excretion of chemicals and substances from the body system.
Maintaining chemical composition of electrolytes, fluids, and tissues throughout the body.
Production erythropoietin.
