anatomy and physiology Flashcards
What is antagonistic pair
it is a pair of muscles working together to create a movement, when one contracts the other relaxes
antagonist
when the muscle relaxes
agonist
when the muscle contracts
isotonic contraction
its when the muscles changes in the length as they contract
2 types of isotonic contraction
concentric contraction: is when the muscle shortens
eccentric contraction: is when the muscle lengthen
isometric contraction
when the muscles contract but they stay the same length
slow twitch fibres
contract slowly
produces little force
higher fatigue tolerance
good for endurance
fast twitch fibres
contract faster
produces more force
lower fatigue tolerance
good for strength and power
how to calculate minute ventilation
tidal volume(ml) x number of breaths (per minute)
tidal volume
the volume of air inhaled during normal breathing
minute ventilation
the volume of air you breathe per minute
vital capacity
the maximum volume of air you can breath out
residual volume
the volume of air left in your lungs after breathing out
stroke volume
the volume of blood ejected from the heart per beat
