Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
Governs all sensory and motor thought and learning; analyze, associates, integrates, and stores information
Cerebrum
Permits blood to circulate from one hemisphere to the other and from anterior to posterior and is located in the subarachnoid space
Circle of Willis
The three meninges that covers not just the brain but also the spinal cord and spinal canal
Pia Mater
Arachnoid Layer
Dura Mater
Contains cerebral arteries and veins bathed in CSF
Subarachnoid space
Potential space for the skull and outermost meningeal layer
Epidural space
Formed from 8 bones with a volume of around 1.4-1.5 L
Skull
Regulates autonomic nervous system, stress responses, sleep, appetite, body temp, water balance, and emotion.
Hypothalamus
Regulates some visceral activities and some function in emotional personality
Limbic System
Supplies nutrients to neuron structure and to support framework for neurons and capillaries; forms part of the blood–brain barrierThis is the life support of the neuron
Astrocytes
What are the neuronal structures?
Cell body, dendrites, axon, myelin sheath, saltatory conduction and neurilemma
Types of Neuroglial Cells
Astroglia (Astrocyte), Oligodendroglia, Ependyma and Microglia
This is a type of neuroglial cell which forms the myelin sheath in the central nervous system
Oligodendroglia
Section of the brain located at the lower back part which is composed of pons, medulla, and cerebellum
Hindbrain
This part of the neuronal structure is in charge of transmission of impulses.
Axon
This part of the neuronal structure is the life support of the neuron
