Anatomy Flashcards
Thoracic wall, mediastinum and pericardium
What are the two apertures(borders) of thoracic wall?
- Thoracic inlet
2. Thoracic outlet
Where is is the superior border of the heart located(landmarks)?
Left 2nd rib cartilage, right 3rd rib cartilage
What is the landmark of the Right border of the heart?
Right 3rd rib cartilage - right 6th rib cartilage
What is the landmark of the inferior border of the heart?
Right 6th rib cartilage - left 5th rib cartilage
What is the landmark of the left border of the heart?
Left 5th intercostal space Mid clav line - left 2nd cartilage
Pulmonary valve landmark?
Left 3rd costal cartilage
Aortic valve landmark?
Left 3rd intercostal space
Mitral valve landmark?
Left 4th costal cartilage
Tricuspid valve landmark?
4th and 5th intercostal spaces left
Name the mediastinum :
Extends inferiorly from the thoracic aperture to transverse thoracic plane (located on the sternal angle anteriorly to IV disc of T4/5 posterioly)
Superior Mediastinum
Name the mediastinum :
that stretches from the transverse thoracic plane to the diaphragm and can be divided into anterior, middle and posterior part
Inferior Mediastinum
Name the mediastinum:
that consists of the heart and it’s great vessels root(Pericardium)
Middle Mediastinum
What structures are found anterior in the Superior Mediastinum?
Manubrium/Sternum
Thymus
Large veins
After puberty, the Thymus is replaced by what?
Fat
What is found in the middle of the superior Mediastinum?
Arteries
Nerves
Ascending aorta has a diameter of approximately how long?
2.5cm
What are the branches of the Ascending aorta?
RCA and LCA
Aortic arch landmark?
Posteriorly to the 2nd right sternocostal joint
At level T4/5 posteriorly
Aorta ascends anterior to what?
R pulmonary
Bifurcation of trachea
What passes from the root of the L pulmonary artery to the inferior surface of the aortic arch?(small connective structure)
Ligamentum arteriosum
Brachiocephalic trunk landmark?
Anterior to trachea
Posterior to Left brachiocephalic vein
