Anatomy Flashcards
Break down the important anatomies of esophagus
cervical, upper thoracic, mid thoracic, lower thoracic/GEJ, then GEJ tumor (Siewert type 1, 2, 3)
Define Siewert type 1
1-5 cm superior to cardia
Define Siewert type 2
At cardia or up to 1 cm superior and 2 cm inferior
What is the relative anatomy of esophagus to pharynx, stomach, and trachea?
Esophagus extends form the pharynx to the stomach, trachea anteriorly
What is the rough total length of esophagus?
25 cm
What marks the junction of the stomach and esophagus?
Cardia
Define Siewart type 3
2-5 cm inferior to cardia
What is the GEJ tumor classification?
Siewart type 1-3
What is the landmark for cervical esophagus cancer?
C6: distal hypopharynx
How far away from the upper incisors is for cervical?
15-18 cm
How far away from the upper incisors is for upper thoracic esophageal cancer?
18-24 cm
What is the landmark for upper thoracic esophageal cancer?
Carina is at 24 cm from the upper incisors
What is carina?
In anatomy, the carina is a ridge of cartilage in the trachea that occurs between the division of the two main bronchi
How far away from the upper incisors is for mid thoracic esophageal cancer?
24 - 32 cm from the upper incisors
How far away from the upper incisors is for lower thoracic/GEJ esophageal cancer?
32 - 40 cm form the upper incisors
