What are the ligaments that contribute to the Stay apparatus
-Common digital extensor Tendon
-Deep Digital Flexor tendon
-superficial flexor tendon

Topography of the Equine Rear Leg
The toes – differences between front and rear limb
Metatarsus – differences between front and rear limb
Suspensory apparatus and configuration of the fetlock are much the same
• Hf: the middle phalanx (short pastern) is narrower and longer.
• Hf: the proximal phalanx (long pastern) is somewhat shorter.
• Attachment of M.extensor digitalis lateralis is different to front leg
• Digital flexor tendons are not remarkably different
Metatarsus – differences between front and rear limb
• Metatarsus 16% longer than Metacarpus
• Hind cannon bone more rounded than front cannon
bone
• HH: lateral splint bone is bigger than medial splint bone
• Accessory (subtarsal or inferior check) ligament of the deep digital flexor arises from plantar aspect of fibrous joint capsule of tarsus (hock) and is smaller than in front leg. May be absent in some horses.
