Anatomy Flashcards
Epidermis
Outermost layer of the skin, avascular, cells shed off
Dermis
Second outer most layer of the skin made up of collagen and elastic, collagen directionality causes wrinkles and tension lines, damaged collagen causes stretch marks from overstretching,Contains hair follicles with arrector pili muscles which help to secrete oils from the sebaceous gland
Subcutaneous tissue
Loose connective tissue and fat, base of the sebaceous glands vessels and cutaneous nerves
Deep fascia
Dense connective tissue without fat, present throughout the body, deep to subcutaneous tissue, and includes investing fascia, intramuscular septa, subserous fascia, retinacula, and bursae
Investing fascia
Deep fascia surrounding structures
Intramuscular septa
Deep fascia dividing muscles
Subserous fascia
Deep fascia between body cavities and musculoskeletal walls
Retinacula
Deep fascia holding tendons in place
Bursae
Deep fascia sacs containing fluid to aid motion
Head or belly of skeletal muscle
Contractile fleshy part
Tendons or aponeuroses
Non-contractile white part
Muscle function is linked to…
The orientation of the muscle fibers, the joints it crosses, and it’s position compared to the joints it crosses
Fibrous joint
Unite bones by fibrous tissue (e.g. bones of cranium)
Cartilaginous joints
Unite bones by hyaline cartilage (e.g. vertebral column)
Synovial joints
Unite bones with a potential space and synovial fluid (e.g. knee)
