Anatomy Flashcards
What is the major duodenal papilla?
The opening of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct into the duodenum. It marks the junction between the foregut and the midgut
What structures might a tumour at the head of the pancreas involve?
common bile duct, pancreatic duct, duodenum, superior mesenteric vein, inferior vena cava, superior mesenteric artery
Where is the sphincter of Oddi?
Between the 2nd and 3rd parts of the duodenum on the left wall, about 5cm distal to the pylorus
How many pancreatic ducts are there? What is their embryological significance?
2
The pancreas forms from an anterior and posterior bud from the gut tube, each bud has its own duct.
During development the buds roatae and fuse, trapping the superior mesenteric artery between the two. The artery runs behind the neck of the pancreas and infront of the uncinate process
What is the arrangement of the ducts, artery and portal vein at the hepatis?
Hepatic ducts, hepatic arteries, portal vein
ant to post
What is Calots triangle?
Side 1=right hepatic and common hepatic duct
Side2= gall bladder and cystic duct
Side3= the liver
What are the contents of calots triangle?
a lymph node
Of which artery is the cystic artery a branch?
Right hepatic arteyr
What structures are found in the porta hepatis?
Hepatic arteries, hepatic ducts, portal vein, lymphatics, sympathetic nerves
Where is the bare area of the liver?
Under the tendinous part of the right hemidiaphragm
What is the surface marking of the fundus of the gallbladder?
Tip of the 9th costal cartilage, where the lateral edge of the rectus sheath joins the costal margin
What do the hepatic veins drain into?
IVC
