Anatomy Flashcards
What does the head of the rib articulate with?
Body of of the vertebra
Where on the rib is the costal groove?
Inferiorly
What articulates in the:
- Costovertebral joint
- Costochondral joint
- Sternocostal joints
Costvertebral - rib to vertebra
Costochondral - rib to costal cartilage
- Sternochondral - sternum to costal cartilage
What is the order of the NVB in the costal groove from superior to inferior?
Vein
Artery
Nerve
What are the lateral and medial branches coming off of the thoracic aorta?
Lateral = intercostal arteries - supply the chest wall Medial = bronchial arteries, supply arterial blood to the lung tissue
At what level does the IVC, oesophagus and aorta pass through the diaphragm?
Vena cava = T8
Oesophagus = T10
Aortic hiatus = T12
What supplies the diaphragm?
Phrenic nerve - C 3, 4, 5 anterior rami
Where are the deep and superficial rings of the inguinal canal?
Deep is superior - it is a full circle
Superficial is inferior - it is a “V” shape
What are the events that take place in coughing?
Something hits that back of the throat, stimulating sensory receptors, then transmitted back either in CN IX (superior) or X (inferior).
The vagus travels in the carotid sheath - a tube of deep fascia running from the base of the skull down to the mediastinum.
The common and internal carotid arteries are both in the carotid sheath.
A deep, forced inspiration occurs using the diaphragm (phrenic nerves), intercostal muscles (intercostal nerves) and accessory muscles.
Adduction of the vocal cords to close the rima glottidis.
Contraction of the anterolateral abdominal wall musclesto build up intra-abdo pressure which causes increase of pressure –> vocal cords open
What is the direction of the intercostal and oblique muscles?
They are the same!
External V
Internal /\
Innermost II (intercostal, = oblique)
