Anatomy Flashcards
How many ribs are there?
12
which are true ribs are there? what does is mean to be a true rib?
Ribs 1-7, they attach to the sturnum.
Which are the false ribs? what makes they false ribs?
Ribs 8 - 10. they attach to costal cartilage of rib 7
Which are the floating ribs? Why are they floating?
Ribs 11 and 12. They have no anterior attachment.
Thoracic Vertebral body shape
heart shaped
Thoracic Vertebral foramen
relatively small
Thoracic S.P.s
narrow, tapered, shingled
Thoracic T.P.s
project lateral/posterior
Thoracic Apophyseal facets –
in coronal/frontal
plane
Thoracic Superior facets –
– posterior
Thoracic Inferior facets
anterior
Thoracic Vertebrae Unique feature
costal articulations
Thoracic Intervertebral Discs
Anterior Longitudinal
Ligament
Attaches to anterior spine, from
occiput to sacrum
Attaches to vertebral bodies, not to
discs
Becomes taut during spinal
extension
Posterior Longitudinal
Ligament
Attaches to posterior vertebral
bodies, from occiput to sacrum
Waisted: wider over disc, narrower
over vertebrae
Attaches to both vertebrae and discs
Becomes taut during spinal flexion
Ligamentum flava
Segmental
Attaches to inner aspect of lamina
Highest percentage of elastic fibres
of all ligaments
Always taut; most taut during spinal
flexion
Intertransverse Ligament
Segmental
Attaches from TP to TP
Becomes taut during flexion and
sidebending
Interspinous Ligament
Segmental
Attaches from lateral aspect of SP
to SP
Becomes taut during flexion and
rotation
Supraspinous Ligament
Distal continuation of ligamentum
nuchae
Attaches to most posterior aspect of
SPs; from C7 – sacrum
Becomes taut during flexion and
rotation
