Anatomy Flashcards
Cardiovascular System
Comprised of the heart and blood vessels, responsible for circulating blood throughout the body, transporting oxygen, nutrients, and waste products
Respiratory System
Includes the lungs and airways, responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the body and the environment through breathing.
Nervous System
Comprised of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, responsible for transmitting signals to and from different parts of the body, controlling movement, and processing information.
Muscular System
Comprised of skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscles, responsible for movement, posture, and generating heat in the body.
Skeletal System
Comprised of bones, cartilage, and ligaments, responsible for providing structure and support to the body, protecting internal organs, and producing blood cells.
Endocrine System
Includes glands such as the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, and adrenal glands, responsible for producing hormones that regulate metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions.
Immune System
Comprised of white blood cells, antibodies, and lymphoid organs, responsible for defending the body against pathogens, infections, and foreign substances.
Reproductive System
Includes organs such as the
testes and ovaries, responsible for the production of gametes (sperm and eggs) and reproductive hormones, as well as the development of offspring.
Renal system
Comprised of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, responsible for filtering blood, removing waste products, regulating fluid balance and electrolytes, and producing urine.
Digestive System (Gastrointensinal)
Includes the mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas, responsible for breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste through digestion and metabolism.
Integumentary System
Comprised of the skin, hair, and nails, responsible for protecting the body from external threats, regulating temperature, and providing sensory information.
Lymphatic System
Includes lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, and the spleen, responsible for maintaining fluid balance, filtering lymph, and defending the body against infections and diseases.
Special Senses System
Comprised of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin receptors, responsible for processing sensory information related to vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch.
