Anatomy Flashcards
What is a fibrous joint?
It is a solid joint in which the gap is filled by fibrous connective tissue.
What is the fibrous joint between teeth called?
Gomphosis
What is the fibrous joint between tibiofibula called?
Syndesmosis
What is the fibrous joint between skull called?
Suture
What is a primary cartilaginous joint?
- Articular cartilage fills up gap
- Found in growth plates (fuse as growth comes to an end (ossification))
- Only found in juveniles
Secondary cartilaginous joint?
-Fibrocartilage found in gap (allows slight movement)
-Almost exclusively exist in medial plane
-Not ossified
Synovial joint?
-Freely movable joint due to space between bones.
-Surrounded by synovial membrane to allow bones to glide.
What are the different types of vertebrae called?
Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum and coccyx.
How many cervical vertebrae are there?
7
How many thoracic vertebrae are there?

How many coccyx vertebrae are there?
Ranges from 3-5
Features of cervical vertebrae?
-Foramen in transverse process to allow vertebral artery to run through
