Their margins are the superior vesical artery and bladder pillars medially; the external iliac vessels, obturator internus, and levator ani muscles laterally; the pubic bone anteriorly; and the lateral parametrium posteriorly.

A
The cardinal ligament defines the borders of the pararectal space anteriorly; the space is defined medially by the rectum, posteriorly by the sacrum, and laterally by the internal iliac artery or pelvic sidewall.
