Anatomy Flashcards
Describe the cell structure / histology of the bronchi?
- Pseudostratified columnar epithleium, interspersed w. goblet cells
- Cartilage (Complete ring shaped at level of primary bronchi)
What do the bronchi have that the bronchioles do not?
Cartilage and glands
At what level do the cells go from columnar to cuboidal?
Proximal bronchioles - columnar
Terminal bronchioles - cuboidal
At what level does the mucous turn to serous fluid?
Proximal to terminal bronchioles
What do club cells secrete?
Glycosaminoglycans
Where can alveolar macrophages be found?
- Respiratory bronchioles
- Alveoli
When do the submucosal mucous and serous glands dissapear?
From bronchi to bronchioles
When do the goblet cells dissapear?
Proximal -> Terminal bronchioles
Where in the respiratory tract do cilia disappear?
They are present in the respiratory tract all the way to the level of the respiratory bronchioles
- Not present in the alveoli
