Anatomy Flashcards
Where is pee stored?
The balls 👀
What are the two types of nephrons? What differentiates them?
Cortical (85%) and Juxtamedullary (15%)
Juxtamedullary nephrons have much longer loops of Henley for effective water reabsorption
Where are podocytes found? What is their purpose?
Around arteriole of the glomerulus, forming the filtration barrier that prevents large molecules eg albumin from being filtered out
What cells line the bladder?
Urothelium (transitional epithelium)
Also found in ureter lumen
What is the role of the juxtaglomerular apparatus and macula dense cells?
Sense changes in concentration or sodium and chloride ions and feedback to the arterioles of the glomerulus to relax or contract further
Outline the pathway for oxygenated blood through the kidney
Renal artery - segmental artery - interlobar artery - arcuate artery - interlobular artery - afferent arteriole - glomerulus - efferent arteriole
Deoxygenated vessels are veins with the same name in the opposite order
