Main Tissues of the Body
4 types:
- Epithelial Tissue
- Connective tissue
- Nervous tissue
- Muscle tissue
Epidermis layers (outermost layer)
From superficial to deep.
Come Let’s Get Sun Burn
1. Stratum Corneum- outermost layer composed of dead, keratinized cells that are constantly shed.
2. Stratum Lucidum - thin, translucent layer found primarily in thick skin on the palms and soles.
3. Stratum Granulosum - Cells in this layer develop granules that contribute to keratin production.
4. Stratum Spinosum - contains cells with “prickle” projections that connect to neighboring cells.
5. Stratum Basale - deepest layer where new cells are produced through mitosis.
Dermis
Middle skin layer that contains blood vessels. The dermis does not contain any epithelial layers; it is primarily composed of connective tissue, so it only has the papillary and reticular layers, which are both considered connective tissue layers, not epithelial layers
Hypodermis (subcutaneous layer)
Primarily comprised of loose connective tissue and adipose tissue and blood vessels.
