The epiglottis forms part of the opening of the trachea.
What is the function of the epiglottis?
The epiglottis closes over the trachea when we swallow to prevent aspiration.
What is the sagittal plane?
Divides the body into left and right sides horizontally.

A continuous membrane layer that protects and lubricates the body cavities.
What is the pleura?
A serous membrane which covers the thoracic cavity.
What is the mediastinum?
It is a double layer of parietal pleura.
What is the peritoneum?
A continuous sheet that forms the closed cavity in the abdominal cavity.
What is peritoneal fluid?
A fluid which acts as a lubricant to allow friction free movement of organs and the peritoneum.
