Anatomical Terms Flashcards
Anatomical position
Standing erect, with arms on the sides and palms of the hands facing forward
Anterior
Frontal side of the body; situated in the front or directed towards front
C-spine
Cervical spine from C1-C7
Diffuse
Generalized, widely spread; not localized to any specific location of the body. Example: The pt seems to have diffused large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL)
Distal
Farther from the torso/trunk of the body; farther from the joint
Epigasteic
Upper central region of the abdomen;
Fontanel
The “soft area” region of an infant’s skull
Inferior
Lower on the body, farther from your head
L-spine
Aka Lumbar Spine; L1-L5; Cervical spine at the top, from the neck-> followed by Thoracic spine -> followed by Lumbar Spine
Lateral
Farther from the midline
LLE
Left lower extremity; left leg
RLE
Right lower extremity; right leg
RUQ
Right upper quadrant (Abdomen)
LUQ
Left upper quadrant (abdomen)
RLQ
Right lower quadrant (abdomen), appendix is located
LLQ
Left lower quadrant of the abdoment
LUE
Left upper extremity; left arm
RUE
Rught upper extremity; right arm
Medial
Nearer to the midline
Palmar/Volar
Palm side of the hand or body; located on the same side of your palm;
Plantar
Sole of the foot.
Posterior/dorsal
Back side of your body; rear
Prone
Body lying down, face down, forearm and and hands turned palm side down
Proximal
Closer to the trunk of the body; closer to the joint as the point of reference; ex: knee is distal to the hip, and the knee is proximal to the toes.
Hip is proximal to the knee, foot isnfistal to the ankle (the foot is farther away from the trunk, and it becomes the point of reference)
