anatomical plane of the body Flashcards
Physiology
the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts.
anatomy
the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms, especially as revealed by dissection and the separation of parts.
Homeostasis
the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.
Metabolism
the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life.
Cellar respiration
Cellular respiration is the set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products.
Anatomical position
Erects with the arms at the sides and the palms forward
Superior
Above or in higher position.
Head superior to the torso
Inferior
Below , lower
The knee is inferior to the thigh
Ventral / anterior
Located near the surface or in front of coronal (frontal) plane.
Dorsal/ posterior
Located to the back of the coronal plane
Medial
Near the center or midline of the saggital plane.
Think of the midline as dividing the body in half with a left and right side
Lateral
Away from the midline of the saggital plane
Proximal
Nearest the point of attachment
Distal
Farthest from the point of attachment or the midline
My elbow is distal from my hand
Caudal
Located near the sacral region
