Flexion
The motion of bending a joint resulting in a decreased joint angle
Extension
Joint straightens or moves back to anatomical position
Abduction
Movement away from the midline of the body
Adduction
Movement toward the midline of the body
Horizontal Adduction
Movement TOWARD midline while parallel to ground
Horizontal Abduction
Movement AWAY from midline while parallel to ground
Internal Rotation
Rotation towards the center of the body
External Rotation
Rotation away from the center of the body
Circumduction
Movement in a circular pattern that outlines a cone
Supination
Palms and forearms facing up
Pronation
Palms and forearms facing down
Hyperextension
The joint is straightened beyond its normal range
Inversion
Rotate foot medially
Eversion
Rotate foot laterally
Plantar Flexion
Top of the foot points away from the leg
Pointing toe or pushing gas pedal
