Anatomy
The study of internal and external body structures and their physical relationships among other body parts.
Physiology
The study of how living organisms perform their vital functions.
Four different abdominopelvic quadrants
Right upper quadrant, right lower quadrant, left upper quadrant, & left lower quadrant.
Nine Abdominopelvic Regions
Right and left hypochondriac regions, right and left lumbar regions, right and left inguinal regions, epigastric region, umbilical region, & hypostatic region (pubic).
Lateral
Away from the midline (center of the body in anatomical position).
Medial
Towards the midline (center of the body in anatomical position).
Proximal
Closest to the point of attachment of a limb to the trunk.
Distal
Away from the point of attachment of a limb to the trunk.
Cranial
Towards the head.
Cephalic
Towards the head.
Caudal
Towards the tail.
Sagittal Plane
The vertical plane that separates the right and the left sides of the body.
Midsagittal Plane
Directly in line with the sagittal plane.
Parasagittal Plane
Off center from the sagittal plane.
Transverse Plane
Divides the body into superior and inferior.
