Anatomic Planes Flashcards
Anatomy and physiology requires a..
Precise language to ensure that they are all discussing the same structures and functions.
Most anatomic terms derive from
Greek or Latin terms
Supine
Lying down and face upward
Anatomic position
Standing upright with feet parallel and flat on the groundthe upper limbs are at the sides of thebody with palms facing anteriorly (toward the front); the head is level and eyes looking forward toward observer.
Section
Actual cut or slice to expose internal anatomy
Plane
Imples an imaginary flat surface passing through the body-
Major anatomical planes
Coronal,transverse, midsagittal
Coronal plane
Also known as frontal plane. Is a verticalplane that divides structures and organin anterior and posterior part.
Transverse plane
Known as cross-sectional or horizontal plane. Divides the structures and organs in superior and inferior portions.
Midsagittal plane
. Also known as median plane. Divides structures and organs into equal left and right halves.
Oblique
Minor planes that pass through a structure at an angle.
