Right
Your subjects right, not yours
Lateral
Toward the side; ex. The eyes are lateral to the nose
Medial
Your body and palms facing forward. Ex. The eyes are medial to the ears
Anterior
Toward the front of the body. Ex. The nose is on the anterior of the head
Posterior
Toward the back, rear. Ex. The heel is posterior to the head
Superior
Toward the top of the body; ex. The shoulders are superior to the hips
Inferior
Toward The bottom of the body. Ex. The stomach is inferior to the heart.
Dorsal
Along the vertebral surface of the body, a shark…for example…it’s fin is dorsal
Ventral
Along the belly surface, ex. The naval is on the ventral surface
Caudad
Toward the tail; of an animal
Cephalad
Toward the head; 4 legged animals
Proximal
Toward the trunk. ex. The joint is proximal to the toe nail
Distal
Away from trunk or point of attachment ex. The hand is distal to the elbow
Visceral
Toward an internal organ. “Inside”
Parital
Toward the wall, away from internal structures, the outside
