What are some common causes of anaphylaxis

A

Allergy - nut, shellfish, strawberries, latex
drugs - antibiotics, NSAIDs
Bee/Wasp sting

What are the clinical features of anaphylaxis

A

Resp –> swelling of upper airway, wheeze, dyspnoea, chest tightness, hypoxia, hypercapnia
Skin –> urticaria, pruritus, erythema, angio-oedema
CVS –> peripheral vasodilation, hypotension, shock

How is anaphylaxis managed

A
Lie patient flat and raise legs
IM adrenaline 0.5mg (0.5ml of 1 in 1000)
Maintain airway - get help. Intubation or emergency surgical airway may be needed
High flow oxygen 
IV fluid challenge - 500ml-1L
Hydrocortisone 200mg IM or slow IV 
Chlorphenamine 10mg Im or slow IV
