what is anaphylaxis?
A
severe type 1 hypersensitivity reaction. IgE stimulates mast cells to release histamine and other pro-inflammatory chemicals.

presentation of anaphylaxis?
A
urticaria, itching, angio-oedema, abdominal pain, sob, wheeze, swelling of larynx causing stridor, tachycardia, lightheadedness, collapse

medication for anaphylaxis?
A
IM adrenalin- repeated after 5 mins if needed
antihistamines- oral chlorphenamine or cetirizine
steroids- IV hydrocortisone

how can anaphylaxis be confirmed?
A
measuring mast cell tryptase within 6 hours
