- Symmetry
- Inspiratory expansion
- Percussion (resonance + diaphragm lowers)
- “Alveolar” breath sounds (no wheeze, rales, friction rub)
- Symmetrical fremitus + bronchophony
- (Vertebral/costovertebral angle tenderness absent)
What should be included in a negative physical exam of the heart + major vessels?

- Normal borders
- Apex beat palpable (5th IC, 1 cm medial to MCL)
- Normal S1/S2 (no added heart sounds, murmurs, friction rub)
- No carotid bruits
- Normal JVP

- At the level of the chest (not distended)
- Soft + non-tender (no defense/rebound tender)
- No masses
- Liver dullness present, normal borders (incl. on inspiration)
- Spleen + kidneys non-palpable

- No joint deformities
- No edema
- No varicose veins
