Analog Flashcards
Difference between Digital and Analog
Digital devices have a finite number of states while Analog devices have a continuum of possible states
Time frame of the Astrolabe
Used in the Arab empire (~600 AD ~1600 AD. Possibly before but it is not definitive
Parts of the Astrolabe
- Outer backing: Mater
- Metal: plates
- cut-away disk: rete
Use of the Astrolabe
Used for time telling and navigation(determining latitude).
Each 15 degrees represents 1 hour
Astrolabe today
Not needed after the use of accurate mechanical clocks (Galileo’s conceived pendulum clock ~1600)
Use of the Differential analyzer
Determining the area under a curve
Time frame of the Differential Analyzer
Late 1920s. early 1930s
Programming of the differential analyzer
Difficult to program and debug because it relied heavily on mechanical parts
Military applications of the differential analyzer
Ballistics research (artillery and rocket trajectories)
