Anal Sac Apocrine Gland Adenocarcinoma
Where does it spread
Local lymph nodes:
Sublumbar
Abdominal (mesenteric?)
Perianal adenoma
Benign
Intact male dogs; testosterone driven
Perianal gland carcinomas
Malignant
Possible male predominance
Anal Sac Carcinoma
Characteristics
Presentation
Malignant
Hypercalcemia (PTHrp)
Anal sac mass
Median age: 10.5 years
Breeds: Springer spaniel, dachshund, malamute, cocker spaniel, German shepherd, bassets
Anal Sac Carcinomas
Diagnostics
CBC, Chemistry, UA Thoracic Radiographs Image abdomen (>50% metastasized to lymph nodes)
Hypercalcemia:
Lymphoma vs Anal Sac Carcinoma
Patients with anal sac carcinoma not as sick as lymphoma
Anal sac carcinoma: gradual increase in Ca
Lymphoma: sudden increase in Ca
Anal Sac Carcinomas
Surgery
Remove mass and nodes; debulk as much as possible
Anal Sac Carcinomas
Radiation Therapy
Mass and nodes
More “curative”
Anal Sac Carcinomas
Chemotherapy
Carboplatin
Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors
Can be used as preventative
Usually do surgery with chemotherapy
