anaesthsesia 2 - machines Flashcards
how would resistance affect choice of the system?
hypoventilation
all valves, canisters, and hoses resistance increases more with diameter than length. IPPV normally overcomes with this.
explain some factors influencing the system you would choose?
- resistance
- meachanical dead space
- circuit drag
- ease of maintenance/sterilisation
- valve position
- ease of scavenging
mechanical dead space, how would this affect choice?
vdmech. expired gas which is re-aspirated unchanged every breath. reduces portion of fresh gas reaching alveoli. - hypoventilate
what is circuit drag?
increase with parallel lack due to 2 tubes
heavy hoses valves and canisters
facilitate extubation
if an animal has an infectious disease then the system must be?
easy to clean/sterilise or disposable.
explain how valve position may have an affect?
if too close to head eg. magill. then problem in dental surgery.
explain ease of scavenging?
if near pressure relief valve - contributes to the drag.
SEE ALL THE SYSTEMS IN BOOKLET!!! which are bag on expiratory limb?
ayres and the bain. learn pros and cons of all!!!
