Anaesthetics Critical Care Flashcards
Define Vasopressors?
Drugs that constrict vessels (mainly veins) - Alpha-1-agonists
Define Inotropes?
Drugs that increase heart contractility - Beta-1-agonists
What is the body’s daily Sodium (NA+) requirement?
1-2mmol/Kg/Day
What’s your daily potassium requirement?
0.5-1mmol/kg/Day
What’s your daily fluid requirement?
25-30ml/Kg/day
Whats the body’s daily glucose requirements?
50-100g/day
What are the 2 types of Respiratory Failure?
Type 1 - Oxygenation Failure
Type 2 - Oxygenation and Ventilation Failure
Define shock:
The acute circulatory failure with inadequate or inappropriately distributed tissue perfusion resulting in cellular hypoxia.
What are the 5 main types of shock? (Cardiac failure)
- Septic (Disribution)
- Hypovolemic
- Anaphylactic
- Neurogenic
- Cardiogenic
Whats the equation for cardiac output?
Cardiac Output = Heart Rate x Stroke Volume
What is Stroke Volume?
Preload / Contractility / Afterload
What are 2 Vasopressors?
Metaraminol
Noradrenaline
What are 2 Inotropes?
Adrenalin
Dobutamine
What are the 4 causes for neurological failure?
Metabolic
Trauma
Infection
Stroke
