Anaesthetic Drugs Flashcards
Which anaesthetics are used first of all? What is done afterwards?
IV fentanyl to rapidly induce anaestheisa
Then propfol (enhances GABA, reduces consciousness)
Rocuronium - relaxes airways so only used if you’re below the epiglottis?
THEN inhalational anaesthetics are given via SMA/tube
In which circumstances are the inhalational anaesthetics used first?
Inhalational ones are used for kids
Types of inhalational anaesthetics
Halogens (sevoflurane) and non halogens (NO)
What is always in the emergency red tray?
Propofol Ephedrine Fentanyl Atracurium Muscle relaxant
Stages of anaesthesia can be assessed on?
Pupil size and and movement
SE of propafol?
Reduced BP
What might you see on the monitoring machine?
HR spO2 etCO2 Lung function along the bottom MAC
What is etCO2
End-tidal CO2
How much CO2 you’re breathing out (shows how well you’re oxygenating)
What is MAC? What is the relationship between this and age?
Conc of inhaled volatile gas, where 50% of the population won’t respond to the drug
The older you are, the less responsive you are
What is the point of IV fentanyl?
To rapidly make you feel whoozey
What does propofol do and how does it feel?
Reduces consciousness, you can feel your hands and everything go cold, unpleasant
What does rocuronium do, moa, and how does it feel?
Competitive AchR neuromuscular junction blocker, muscle relaxant, really uncomfortable, like firing electrics
