Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards
What stages can’t work if there is no oxygen and why?
- ETC because NADH and water can’t be made
2. Link reaction and Krebs cycle because no NAD is regenerated to pick up more oxygen
How does anaerobic respiration occur in animals?
Glucose - Pyruvate forming 2ATP and 2 Hydrogen - 2H combines w NADH which is then regenerated to 2NAD - the 2H combines w Pyruvate and turns into lactate/lactic acid which can be broken down into CO2 and water in the presence of oxygen.
How does anaerobic respiration occur in microorganisms like yeast?
Glucose turns to pyruvate and 2 ATP are made and it’s dehydrogenated making 2H - makes 2NADH which regenerated to 2 NAD - pyruvate decarboxylated to make ethanal - ethanal combines w the 2H to make ethanol
