Anaerobic Glycolysis Flashcards
whats respiration
it’s the controlled release of energy from food
word equation?? and write the chemical equation
glucose+ oxygen =>carbon dioxide+ water+ ATP
whats ATP? and what does it stand for?
ATP is the unit of chemical energy in the cell. it stands for Adenine + Ribose + 3 Phosphates
where does Anaerobic Glycolysis take place?
in the cytoplasm outside the mitochondria
(* Cytosol*)
where does the Krebs cycle take place?
in the lumen/matrix of the mitochondria
where does the Electron Transport System take place?
in the Cristae of the mitochondria
Name the carrier in the E.T.S?
NAD+
name the products of the Krebs cycle?
Carbon dioxide and NAD
whats the uses of ATP?
cell synthesis, cell division, muscular contraction, active transport, respiration, photosynthesis, (all chemical reactions in the body )
in the E.T.S after the last carrier the electrons that are no longer rich in energy combine with what??
to form what??
combine with 2H+ and 1/2 oxygen
to form Water
Anaerobic respiration is in the absence of what?
Oxygen
name the test used to test for Ethanol?
The Iodoform Test
lime water turns what colour in the presence of CARBON DIOXIDE?
Milky
What’s the lowest unit of energy?
AMP (1 phosphate)
anaerobic respiration happens in what?
- IN YEAST ~Alcohol (ethanol)
- IN MUSCLES~lactic acid
aerobic respiration happens in what?
in all other cells~krebs cycle
To Show Anaerobic Respiration In Yeast
EXPLAIN
yeast using the glucose, no oxygen present or used, alcohol (ethanol) is produced along with CO2,the limewater in the fermentation lock turns milky indicating that CO2 is present
how do you test for ethanol? - Iodoform Test
5cm3 of potassium iodide and 5cm3 of sodium hypochlorite (bleach) into the test tube
- heat required in a water bath
- The solution should turn clear with yellow crystals suspended in it if ethanol is present
