ana phy final Flashcards
Three muscle tissue types:
Skeletal, Smooth, Cardiac
Skeletal muscle location
muscles that attach to the bones, extrinsic eyeball muscles, upper third of the esophagus
Skeletal function
Movement of the bones, eye movements, first part of swallowing
Smooth location
Walls of tubular viscera of digestive, respiratory and genitourinary tracts; walls of blood vessels and large lymphatic vessels; ducts of glands; Intrinsic eye muscles; arrector muscles of hairs
Smooth function
Movement of substance along the respective tracts; change diameter of vessels, movement of substance along ducts; change of diameter of pupils and shape of lens; erection of hairs
Cardiac location
the heart
Cardiac function
contraction of the heart
How many muscles in the body
There are more than 600 muscles in the body.
What percent of muscles are body weight
They constitute 40 - 50 percent of our body weight.
What do the superior fibers of the trapezius do
elevate the scapula
What do the inferior fibers of the trapezius muscle do
depress
What do the medium fibers of the trapezius do
abduct
Tendon
A strong tough cord continuous at its other end with the fibrous periosteum covering a bone.
Aponeurosis
the fibrous wrapping of a muscle may extend as a broad, flat sheet of connective tissue, usually merges with the fibrous wrappings of another muscle.
Most powerful muscle for forearm flexing
Biceps Brachii
Muscles of facial experssion nerve supply
Cranial nerve VII
Which 2 tendons are involved DeQuervain Stenosing Tenosynovitis
Extensor Pollicis Brevis, Abductor Pollicis Longus
What tendon of the biceps brachii muscle is located at the intertuberculer groove of the humerus
long head biceps brachii
What four muscles make the rotator cuff
Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis
Two muscles invovled in inspiration
Diaphragm, external intercoastals
Direction of diaphragm And external intercoastals
Diaphragm goes down, the external intercoastals lift the ribs up and out
Muscles are involved for expiration (breathing out)
internal intercoastals
6 muscles of facial expression
Occipitofrontalis, Corrugator supercillii, Orbicularis oculi, Zygomaticus major, Orbicularis oris, Buccinator
Functions of the Sternocleidomastoid
Flexes the head (prayer muscle); One muscle alone, rotates the head toward opposite side;
3 layers of the abdominal wall
external oblique, internal oblique, transverse abdominis
What muscle forms the inguinal ligaments
external obliques
location of the trapezius
extends longitudinally from the occipital bone to the lower thoracic vertebrae and laterally to the spine of the scapula (shoulder blade).
Deltoid Origin
Clavicle, Scapula (spine and acromion)
Deltoid Insertion
Humerus (lateral side about half way down - deltoid tubercle)
Triceps function
extend the lower arm
Anterior Longitudinal ligament from where to where
A strong band of fibrious tissue, connects the anterior surfaces of the vertebal bodies from the atlas down to the sacrum
Which muscle has the tendinous intersections
Rectus abdominis
How many tendons in the carpal tunnel
A total of nine flexor tendons, (4)flexor digitorum profundus, (4)Flexor digitorum superficiali, flexor pollicis longus
Articulating bones of the ankle
Distal end of the tibia and fibula w/ the lateral condyle of the tibia
Ligamentum teres
ligament of the head of the femur -From the fovea capitis femoris to the acetabular notch
Movement of the knee joints
Hinge like movments of flexion and extension. With the knee flexed, some internal and external rotation can occur
What tissue can intercalated discs be found
cardiac muscle
What is the basic contractile unit of muscle
the sarcomere
Which muscles invert the foot
tibialis anterior
Which muscles EVERT the foot
Peroneus longus, brevis and tertius
Superficial muscle on the posterior surface of the lower leg has a common tendon. The common tendon of gastrocnemius and soleus is the
calcaneal/Achilles tendon
What are the four muscles of the quadriceps femoris group
rectus femoris, Vastus lateralis, medialis, and intermedius,
What is the function of the queadricpes femoris group
extend the leg by way of the knee joint
Where does the quadriceps femoris group insert
on the tibial tuberosity by way of the patellar tendon (also called the quadriceps tendon before the patella and the patellar ligment from the patella to the tibia)
What tendon does knee jerk reflex use
patellar tendon
What is the origin of the piriformis muscle
anterior surface of the sacrum between the anterior sacral foramina
Where does the piriformis muscle insert
on the medial border of the greater trochanter of the femur
What nerve is under piriformis
The sciatic nerve
