he doesn’t want to take any blame. he keeps reminding the inspector that it was 2 years ago.

parents infantilise kids and are still children to them. they look down on them.
what did Sheila do to Eva?
she got her fired from her 2nd job because she thought Eva was laughing at her. she used her influence at milwards to get her sacked.
“in a furious temper.” and “jealous.”
sheila was angry and jealous because Eva suited the dress. therefore she got her fired.
does sheila take responsibility?
she takes all blame (maybe too much) she feels guilty and responsible for her death.

he saves her from unwanted advances and has a relationship with her (and an affair on sheila). he lets her stay in his friends flat until he breaks up with her. he knows her as daisy Renton.

he reacts with remorse. and says that he must leave.
