What is socialism
Socialism is the belief that everyone should get things equally e.g. Money, jobs, and that the class system should be abolished.
What is capitalism.
Capitalism is the political belief that everyone works for themselves and makes there own profit, this supports the class system.
Who is mister Birling
Mr Birling is a person who ha made his way up through the class system, but was still born high up on the scale. This meant he hasn’t worked hard in his life and is a big supporter of capitalism.
Who is mrs Birling
Mrs Birling is described Asher husbands superior, she is seen throughout the play as a ‘snob’. Again she’s a keen supporter of capitalism.
Who is the inspector
The inspector is the one Ian character who supports socialism. We do t know much but Ashe enters he’s described as purposefulness, suggesting he known what he’s doing and has been in this jobs for along time.
Who Gerald
We know that Gerald is going to marry Shelia and that there celebrating the engagement of Shelia and Gerald, again he supports the class system.
Who is Shelia.
Shelia is a young girl growing up into a world where she has has been fed life through a silver spoon, we can see this from how she constantly goes shopping in expensive shops, but she’s one of the only people who learn from the experience and start to turn from capitalism to socialism, and has noticed her mistakes.
Who is Eric.
Gerald is a young boy, like Shelia has grown up with a silver spoon, but during this play he has made a massive mistake and I’d horrified from it, unlike the others he and Shelia will learn from it.
