K. Prussia was the number 1 state in coal and iron production.
A. This was important because the Prussian economic strength helped with mooving troops with ease as they had the zollverein to help. The zollverein also boosted their economy which meant more money could be put into strengthening the military.
A+. Austria and France also saw growth. Economy alone did not cause the unification as the economy helped to boost other factors causing unification to occur.

K. Bismarck secretly met with Napoleon III of France.
A. This was important because Bismarck used the money of Austria to help build a stronger army. He also used his strategic skills to help with invasions.
A+. This was limited because Bismarck without the economic strength and military strength would have not been able to do what he did.

K. Moltke was a brilliant planner and organiser who was the greatest general of mid 19th century.
A. The technological advancements of the Prussian army and the use of the railways made Prussia deadly. They could get troops easily to countries far away.
A+. This was limited because Austria still have better artillery making Prussia not better in every field of the military.

K. Italians drove Austria out of Venice in 1859.
K. lacked cash to modernise army after defeat in 1859.
A. This was important because the decline of Austria made a big difference as they once controlled the German confederation. So as they no longer did it made unification easier.
A+. However this is less important because Austria’s industry’s and trade did grow showing only some aspects were in decline.

K. All European powers were wary of each other and unlikely to ally so easy to isolate in late 60s.
A. This was important because the role of other countries anticipated Bismarck’s next move. His main concern was France as they would want revenge after waterloo.
A+. This was limited because Napoleon III was in perfect position to stop Bismarck.
