Q

Context

A

The American civil war was during this time 1861-1865 with an estimated death of 620000. Could be a pathetic phalasy of the war.

Her poem is not personal not political however, can be a symbol of the war

This poem is sublime possibly alluding to a war she was watching and not actually taking part in

Can allude go the 1611 Shakespeare play “the tempest” which symbolising an upheaval in the natural order of the universe before the restoration of Gods order- she wrote of Shakespeare “why is any other book needed?”
