AMS Flashcards
Direct Users
A special class of user who carries out the information process within an information system
Microprocessor
Controller in AMS which takes input from sensor, processes it and sends it to an actuator
CAD
Use of IT to design and analyse an object
CAM
Use of specialised IT tools that automate the entire manufacturing process
CAD/CAM
The use of computers to perform many of the functions related to design and production in manufacturing system
Sensors
Analog device which collects data from its environment and sends the signal to a controller for processing.
Barcodes
System for identifying objects through optically representing characters as a series of lines.
RFID
System that uses the electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object.
Damping
Process that modifies the signal to the output device based on the input signal, so that the system reaches a stable position.
Continuous Manufacturing
System designed specifically for one manufacturing task with no clear distinction between starting and finishing points when manufacturing products
Batch Manufacturing
System that manufactures in separate production runs with a clear distinction between one product and another.
Discrete Manufacturing
Entire system is involved in producing items that are not identical and only needed in small quantities.
Actuators
Specialised display devices that perform a mechanical action under the control of the system
Noise
Unwanted interference of signals, caused by external sources resulting in reduced quality of signals.
Signal Conditioning
Alters data signals to improve signal quality and remove unwanted noise.
