Excision of any part of one or more toes
Partial Toe
Disarticulation at the metatarsal phalangeal joint
Toe disarticulation
Resection of the 3rd, 4th, 5th metatarsals and digits

Transmetatarsal
Ankle disarticulation with attachment of the heel pad to distal end of tibia.
May include removal of malleoli and sital tibial/fibular flares

Less than 20% tibial length
Short transtibial (below knee)
Amputation through the knee joint; femur intact
Knee disarticulation
More than 60% of femoral length
Long transfemoral (above knee)
More than 35-60% femoral length
Transfemoral (above knee)
Less than 35% femoral length
Short transfemoral (above knee)
Amputation through hip joint, pelvis intact
Hip disarticulation
Resection of lower half of the pelvis
Hemipelvectomy
Amputation both lower limbs and pelvis below L4-L5
