How were solid state amps different to tube amps?
A
They used transistors rather than valves, which were cheaper, smaller and more reliable, so they were more efficient

How do the amps clip audio?
A
Tube amps clip more softly, allowing for warmer overdrive, whereas solid state has harder clipping which gives harsher overdrive
