Amplifier Electronic Components Flashcards
What does a transformer do?
Changes an AC input voltage to a different AC output Voltage
What is a Balun?
A special type of transformer that transforms a balanced impedance to an unbalanced one
What is the function of the power supply in a Amplifier?
Converts AC power into DC for powering (biasing) Transistors
What does a Fuse do?
Protects sensitive components by breaking the connection if the current is too High.
What is the purpose of a Filter?
Eliminates unwanted frequencies, or as is very common in cable networks, filters separate the upstream and downstream frequencies for amplification the outside plant
What is the purpose of a Pad?
It is a resistor that reduces (attenuate) the output signal when needed.
What is an Equalizer? (not Denzel Washington and/or Queen Letifa)?
Passive devices that attenuate some frequencies more than others for tilt compensation
What is a Diode?
A semiconductor device that blocks negative voltages and can also mix two signals
What is another task of a Transformer besides stepping down AC Voltage?
convert the input AC waveform to a regulated, stable DC waveform.
What are the 4 types of filters
low pass, high pass, bandpass, and bandreject or notch
What does a Low Pass Filter do?
Passes lower frequencies and blocks higher frequencies
What does a High Pass Filter do?
Blocks lower frequencies and passes higher frequencies
What does a Bandpass Filer do?
Allows small range of frequencies to pass through
What does a Bandreject or Notch filer do?
Blocks a small range of frequencies
What is a High Q Bandpass Filter.
A Bandpass Filter that has a very Narrow, sharp drop-off
