AMP Chapter 12 Flashcards
purpose of clutch?
Clutch controls the amount of torque transmitted to wheels.
Internal Gear difference?
same as spur gear but no reversal in direction
Gears are generally used for one of following reasons
To reverse / change the direction of rotation or axis of rotation.
To increase or decrease the speed of rotation / Torque transmitted.
To move rotational motion to a different axis
To keep the rotation of two axes synchronized
The torque to be transmitted is high
3 advantages of gear having teeth?
Most gears have teeth. The teeth have three advantages:
Prevent slippage between the gears. Hence speeds synchronized.
Exact speed ratios can be determined.
Even if diameters are a bit off, number of teeth only matters
Spur Gear?
Spur Gears used when axes of rotation are parallel. Teeth parallel to shaft Can achieve ratios of 10:1 For higher ratios more stages Energy flow bidirectional Low cost Smaller one is called pinion Reversal in direction of rotation Can increase / reduce speed
