Amnioinfusion Flashcards
What is an amnioinfusion
Infusing warm sterile fluid into the uterus through an IUPC during labor
What is one main reason we do amnioinfusion
What will the FHR show if the cord compression is the issue
What is the first intervention we’ll try though if the decels are happening?
Cord compression related to oligohydramnios (not enough amniotic fluid)
variable decels NOT lates
Change mom’s position
Give O2 facemask
How soon is FHR variables relieved when we do an amnioinfusion
20-30 minutes
What is the second reason why we would do an amnioinfusion
When the premature rupture of membrane causes the lack of fluid
- so both are lack of fluid issues
What temp does the fluid need to be for an amnioinfusion
warmed
How is the fluid infused
W infusion pump or IUPC and gravity
What sort of activity should mom be on after amnioinfusion
bed rest
Is amnioinfusion painful
It shouldn’t be
What should you monitor fluid wise for the amnioinfusion
Monitor fluid expulsion
- count pads and visual observations
- should be around the amount infused (1000 ml is max)
what should uterine resting tone be
40 mm hg or below
- it should not go higher
What to document
procedure, maternal and fetal responses, and fluid return
What is the amnioinfusion process
Start with 250-500 ml bolus over 20-30 minutes. Repeat as needed
then followed by continuous administration of fluid if needed until birth
