Amiodarone (Cordarone) Flashcards
Actions
Noncompetitive alpha/beta adrenergic blocking properties
Prolongs duration of action potential and effective refractory period which slows conduction
Class
Class III Antidysrhythmic
Indications
VF or VT cardiac arrest
Control of hemodynamically stable VT, polymorphic VT, and wide-complex tachycardia of uncertain orgin
Refractory PSVTs, atrial tachycardia, and pharmacological cardioversion of AF
Control rapid ventricular rate due to accessory pathway conduction in preexcited atrial arrhythmias.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity
Cardiogenic Shock
Hypotension
Pulmonary congestion
Side Effects
Hypotension Bradycardia Hepatotoxicity CHF, pulmonary fibrosis Misc.: flushing, abnormal salivation
Precautions
Do not shake vial because it will foam
Monitor infusion rate carefully
Monitor VS, EKG, lung sounds, and mental status
